Will AI Search Replace Google for Denver Businesses?
Short answer: not yet, and probably not entirely. But the way people find a plumber, a dentist or a web designer in Denver is shifting, and the businesses preparing now are the ones who will already be in the answer when it matters.
Here is what has actually changed, stripped of the panic that usually comes packaged with it.
What is actually happening
More searches now return an AI-written summary above the traditional results, and a meaningful number of people ask an assistant directly instead of searching at all. For informational questions — 'what does a new roof cost in Colorado' — that summary often answers the question completely and no click happens.
For 'find me someone' questions, the behavior is different. People still want a phone number, a map and reviews, which is why Google Maps and the map pack remain the dominant channel for local service businesses. The AI layer mostly narrows the shortlist before they get there.
The traffic you will lose, and the traffic you will not
Expect informational blog traffic to decline. Posts that exist only to answer a quick factual question will get summarized and bypassed. That is not a catastrophe if those posts were never producing calls anyway — and for most local businesses, they were not.
Commercial searches hold up much better. Nobody books a $12,000 job from a paragraph in a chat window. They still check reviews, still look at photos of your work, and still call.
How to be the business that gets named
Make your facts consistent. Identical name, address, phone and hours on your site, your Google Business Profile and every directory. Inconsistency makes an AI hedge, and hedging means naming somebody else.
Add structured data. LocalBusiness, Service and FAQ markup tell these systems exactly what you do and where. It takes a day and most Denver small business sites still do not have it.
Write in specifics. Publish real price ranges, real timelines, real process steps. Vague copy cannot be quoted, and a source that cannot be quoted is invisible.
What not to spend money on
Ignore anyone selling guaranteed AI placement or a paid submission to an 'AI index.' No such thing exists. Ignore tools promising to rewrite your whole site for AI overnight — the changes that matter are structural, not cosmetic.
The genuine work here overlaps almost completely with good local SEO. If someone is charging you a large premium for GEO on top of an SEO retainer, ask exactly which deliverables are new.
A reasonable plan for this quarter
Month one: fix your name, address and phone everywhere, and add structured data to every page. Month two: rewrite your top five pages so the direct answer sits in the first two sentences under each heading. Month three: baseline how the major assistants describe your business, and start a simple monthly check.
That is a few weeks of work, it improves your normal Google rankings at the same time, and it means you are already in the answer set whenever the volume arrives.
